These galls of an oak tree, are a result of a wasp's hormone, triggering accelerated organic growth (cancer-like?) but once the targeted growth is reached, it is stopped (unlike cancer). Galls (not specified which) where boiled in water and the liquid used as ink for writing kosher bibles.
