The Large Crater Jeep Tours. טיולי ג'יפים המכתש הגדולWe start the track at the high edge of HaMakhtesh HaGadol (The Large Crater) also known as Makhtesh Hatira. A British mandatory track (1940), leads down into the crater wile offering some stunning view points on this geological phenomena, found only in Israel. Minutes into the track, we have a short walk to the largest by far, tree fossils evaluated at 120 million years old!! Back to our 4x4, we cross through 70% of the Great Crater, exploring the unique vividly colored sand rocks. Two geological phenomena in one... We are in the Negev Desert, but in view of the fact we are in a crater, the vegetation is surprisingly divers in shape and size. The desert Bedouins are experts in extracting medicines out of this vegetation. We will practice one process..



Climbing out of the Crater, is a thrilling off road track, originally opened up by an Israeli commando unit. The view is breath taking but there is a story to go with it too... Our track will take us through the abandoned ancient agricultural land of the Nabati people, world famous for building the red sand rock city of Petra in Jordan. Further, into the Tsin valley, we join the 3400 years old track the Hebrews walked for 40 years, on the way back to the homeland, after 400 years of exile.

End of the track, are the desert water holes of Ein Yorkeam, appreciated by the Romans 2000 years ago and awarded by a long set of carved rock stairs...
